For eight years I have been an impressive, successful and highly influential lobbyist with a national profile.
I have a long standing and proven track record of winning change in the Government. I am currently assisting two campaigns, both in the policing space.
I have a national profile due to my overseeing the infamous Sarah Payne murder, as well as being the PCC for Dorset 2012- 2020. I have direct personal connections with many politicians and journalists. I feature regularly in the national press. [i]
My successes include;
- A change in the law – As the PCC national lead for Mental Health, I worked with Theresa May to alter the treatment of mentally ill people in crisis who were being taken into police custody. In 3 years, the number of people in crisis being taken to police stations went down from over 9,000 to 2000, with law change happening in 2017. [ii]
- A change in the law – By working with Liberty and Buzzfeed, the organisation I chair (The Independent Custody Visiting Association) forced the Government to change the treatment of female prisoners in custody, creating 6 new rights,
A new law – I campaigned for 3 years to achieve Finns Law, the new law recognising assaults on emergency services animals.
