Martyn Underhill MBE, PGCE, MSc

PROFILE: 

I am a retired senior police officer, a Lay Canon and the former elected Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) 2012 to 2021 representing the people of Dorset. I am a confident and trusted decision maker and strategic change professional who is experienced in audit and assurance, finance, governance and scrutiny.

BOARD EXPERIENCE 

Nationally I sit on several Boards, including the National Taser Safety Advisory Group, the Board of Trustees for the National Police Memorial Arboretum Trust and I Chair the Independent Custody Visiting Association. I have previously been a Board Member of the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) Audit and Assurance Board, and I Chaired the Forensic Capability Network Executive Board. Locally and regionally, I chair numerous Boards, and I am an experienced Chairperson.

I am trustee, chair or vice chair of several charities and organisations, some local to Dorset, some national.

Lay Canon to Salisbury Cathedral and Diocese (September 2018)

Elected the first Police and Crime Commissioner for Dorset, in November 2012, as an independent candidate. Successfully re-elected in May 2016, with increased turnout and increased majority. On standing down in May 2021, I was one of only three non-political PCCs in England and Wales. There are now none.
